Learn to play the Bagpipes or Drums

Have you ever had a desire to learn to play a musical instrument? Do you dream of standing on the Battlements of Edinburgh Castle playing the pipes? If so we may be able to help you to achieve your dream!

The minimum age for any learner in our band is 10 years, but there is no maximum age! You are never too old to learn something new!

Our band has within it, a wealth of musical and pipe band experience, and we provide tuition on the pipes and drums absolutely free of charge! We will supply your music and tuition manuals, where required, and our mentors are highly experienced musicians. All you need to get, in the initial stages, is a practice chanter and reed (we will advise you on the best one to get and where to get it) if you wish to learn the pipes. If it's the side drum, tenor drum or bass drum you want to have a go at, all you will need is either drum sticks or beaters and a practice pad. Once again we will put you in touch with our supplier.

Lessons are given weekly on Thursday nights, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at our practice venue - The Armed Forces Reserve Centre, Ty Coch Way, Cwmbran. What do we expect from you? Simply your commitment to the programme of learning that your Mentor puts in place, and that you ensure that you practice regularly, attend your weekly lessons and support the band as a whole where you can. Now, where else can you get something for nothing nowadays?

Everyone learns at their own pace, without any pressure. Our bands emphasis is on fun and friendship, and that, along with a firm grounding on your choice of instrument, is what we will give to you.

We have a great mix of people from all backgrounds and ages. Our youngest member is 10 years old and our oldest in their 70's!

But its not all work and no play! Remember, our ethos is based entirely on fun and friendship! We have some smashing social gatherings throughout the year. For example, this summer we are off to see The Red Hot Chilli Pipers in Concert. Then there is always our annual Christmas meal and other social gatherings throughout the year.

So if you would like to be part of this ever expanding, busy, fun and friendly band get in touch, we would love to see you!
